State planning instruments to help local governments evaluate alternative modes of development, land consumption, environmental quality, congestion, and build a regional framework to discourage sprawl development.
12:00 REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INCENTIVES- LUNCH
Ideas and planning resources from the regional perspective to assist local governments with transportation and transit planning, new development, and regional cooperation.
12:45 - 2:00 COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INCENTIVES
Municipal and county governments are focusing on smart growth through cooperative planning. Panelists will share why they are working together, the resources they are using and lessons learned.
2:15 - 3:30 LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INCENTIVES
Local and regional organizations have the resources to assist communities with smart ideas to meet the challenges of affordable housing, open space protection, historic preservation, main streets, and green building. Panelists will share how they use tools to work together to meet these challenges.
4:00 - 4:30 HOW DO WE PUT IT TOGETHER?
How local and regional officials can use and provide cities and communities with the tools to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities of livable cities.
