Speaker Biographies

Don Chen is the founder and Executive Director of Smart Growth America (SGA) and leads its coalition building, policy development, communications and research efforts.  SGA is a national advocacy coalition promoting a better way to grow: one that preserves open space and farmland, reinvests in existing communities, keeps housing affordable and offers more transportation choices.  As an internationally recognized authority on Smart Growth, Mr. Chen is a frequent keynote speaker and has published numerous writings on land use, transportation, social equity and environmental policy. He has lectured widely in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia , has testified before the United States Congress on smart growth issues, and is frequently interviewed by the media, including recent appearances on CNN, National Public Radio, The New York Times and many other programs and publications.
