Sustainable Pittsburgh (SP) is a nonprofit organization that affects decision-making in the  Pittsburgh  region to integrate economic prosperity, social equity, and environmental quality bringing sustainable solutions to communities and businesses.  Since its inception, SP has created a diverse coalition that assists communities and businesses to implement sustainable development practices and collaborates to integrate sustainability, through policy and practice, into the region's process for long-term planning and development.  Our focus is on engaging the government, private, and civic sectors on key regional issues including: smart land use, regional equitable development, linking transportation and economic development, outdoor recreation, Sustainable Business Solutions, Sustainable Business Network, and Sustainable Community Solutions.

Position: 

Sustainable Pittsburgh seeks a full-time Communications Manager to help raise public awareness of SP's mission and programs by maximizing public exposure through the mass media and among regional decision-makers.  The candidate will advance SP's public relations including media relations, communications, marketing, member development, website, and production of outreach materials.  The potential candidate should be an initiator with a keen eye to detail and a passion for sustainable development. 

 

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and implement communications plans.

- Continuously track current events in seeking opportunities to promote sustainability.

- Community relations including serving as media liaison (media plans, key messages, new releases and coordination of special events).

- Develop and implement marketing strategies for SP initiatives, events, and products.

- Write, edit, and ensure excellence in all SP communications.

- Facilitate Outdoor Recreation Partners collaborate and Great Outdoors Week and integrate with SP's overall goals.

- Manage Outdoor Recreation Communications Campaign

- Assemble and disseminate weekly enews publication 3E Links (requires working knowledge of HTML)

- Plan for various print and mailing projects and oversee writing, editing, design and production.

- Member development, event sponsorship, and outreach materials.

- Develop/maintain website and continuously assess effectiveness.

- Manage SP database and use it as a tool to continuously track performance in event registration, membership, etc. and devise effective communications strategies.

- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

- Work as part of a dynamic team to advance Sustainable Pittsburgh 's mission.

- Stay current on policy and practice of sustainable development.

- Seek effective ways to communicate with leaders and track legislative affairs.

 

Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree or higher in Communications, Marketing, or Journalism.

- Communications specialist with a minimum of five years of experience.

- Strong media relations skills.

- Excellent writer and editor, with a talent for making complex material understandable for a general audience.

- Computer skills including desktop publishing, graphics, and website design/maintenance

- Exhibit sound judgment and ability to work well independently and innovate ways to enhance the organization's effectiveness. 

- Excellent organizational and oral/written communication and negotiation skills.

- Familiarity with principles and practice of sustainable development.

 

Compensation:   Full benefits and salary (range $45,000 - $48,000 based on qualifications)

Sustainable Pittsburgh seeks a full-time Program Manager to advance the policy and practice of sustainable development in the Southwestern Pennsylvania region.   

 

Description:

This full-time position receives direction from the Executive Director and is responsible for managing programs that advance the SP mission including:

- Sustainable Community Solutions: facilitate teams of professionals to assess opportunities, apply solutions, and build capacity among partner communities.

- Sustainable Business Solutions: engage teams of professionals to conduct sustainability assessments of client businesses and provide recommendations for triple bottom line innovations.

- Sustainable Business Network: develop and grow a network of leaders who integrate sustainability into their products, services, and practices to the benefit of the regional economy.

- Promote specific sustainability practices, including carbon offsetting per SP's engagement with a national provider.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree (minimum) in community/economic development, business, or related field.

- Four years work experience in community development, relevant business consulting, etc.

- Background desirable in sustainable development, eco-municipalities, engineering, community planning

- Demonstrated skills in public speaking, facilitation, relationship building, project management including quantification skills.

- Candidates must have access to a car on a regular basis.

- Strong interest in sustainability issues.

 

Compensation:          

Full benefits and salary (range $53,000 - $56,000 based on qualifications)
