Jane Downing, The Pittsburgh Foundation

Jane joined The Pittsburgh Foundation in 1994.  As Senior Program Officer she handles business development and upward mobility grants in the Economic Development Targeted Area for Impact and is providing leadership in improving access to work for those who live in areas of concentrated poverty.   

From 1972 to 1994, Jane held positions of increasing responsibility in the Planning Department, City of Pittsburgh and was promoted in 1989 to Planning Director.  She has been active on nearly thirty boards of directors, many in leadership positions and most related to community development, affordable housing and workforce development.

Jane served with the Peace Corps in Panama City after graduation from Bates College with a bachelor’s degree in government.  She holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Pittsburgh.
