I would like to rely on transit. I don't even have to because I do have a car, but I would like to use transit. The reason I moved into the city is because it was a decent transit system that gets me to work and school downtown faster and cheaper than driving and parking. I am a young educated "professional", the kind of person that Pennsylvania is trying to retain and attract. If you want to keep me here, keep transit growing and funded. |

This initiative is critical for all citizens.Dependable, reliable and efficient mass transit is the only realistic option for us to significantly reduce our dependence on oil- foreign or otherwise. The significance of sustainable mass transit is enormous in regard to the environment, and 'liveability' of our cities and towns. |

It is vital for me to have acess to public tranportation because I rely on it to go everywhere. After having my car stolen I had to ride public transportation to go to work to make money and to go shopping to spend money. With gas prices rising I doubt I will ever purchase another car after my postive experience with Port Authority. However, there are still drawbacks. Service where I live is limited and not the best. I would like to see more service. This is why it is so important to the region. Consumers need a more stable schedule with added service to many routes and in the end it helps everybody. |

Public transportation is what provides for a sustainable community for the greater Pittsburgh region. It is an integral factor contributing to the quality of life for our region. To not have a dedicated funding source that supports public transportation considereing the public benefits offered by reducing congestion, harmfull pollutants by increased vehicular traffic, noise pollution, reducing the potential for accidents, and providing a safe an efficient means to get to and from work is a poor reflection on the part of our representation and leadership in Harrisburg. The Governor should be commended for his efforts in tackling this tough issue. Our leadership in Harrisburg needs to act and act now. |

The efficient use of our energy resources is one of the most vital components of our success as a region and nation. This is an ecologic principle that applies to all living organisms. For whatever reason, we often tend to think of ourselves as separate from and not affected by this principle. It is this type of thinking that has led to many of the “ills” that now affect our culture.
Sustainable planning and design and sustainable decision making is based upon adherence to this and all ecologic principles. We are not apart from, but, we are integral to life on this planet and our decision-making must, from this point forward reflect this fact. Transportation is an important component of the efficient use of our energy resources and this initiative is a much-needed step in the right direction. We support it enthusiastically

Public transportation brings people together. It enables people in all economic levels to intermingle. It's democratic. It also provides some down time for stressed out citizens. We are always racing around, but on the bus, train or tram you can let someone else worry about traffic. It saves gasoline. It's cheaper that driving. It is good for the community to have an extensive, convenient wide-spread transportation system. The most civilized countries offer easy-to-use transportation. |

The 700 people in Allegheny County who need our services in order to remain in their own homes and active in their communities rely on public transportation as most cannot drive. In addition, the most of the hundreds of caregivers who provide them with life sustaining services rely on public transporation to get to their homes. Without an adequate, accessible, reliable public transportation system in Allegheny County, many of our workers will lose their employment and may have to rely on public support. Worse yet, many of our participants will lose their source of life sustaining assistance and have to go into institutions, again supported by public funds. Supporting public transportation will be a much more positive use of public funds, as well as a use that will create economic growth as our participants and workers will be able to participate in the social and economic life of the community. |

The annual funding crisis and the resultant uncertainty warrant a permanent solution so our clients and employees need not wonder if essential services and jobs will survive each year. We defer or cancel capital expenditures each time the crisis threatens the very existence or the company. Prospective employees often ask the legitimate question- will your company still be here next year? A company, a city and a region which must live hand-to-mouth, never knowing if funding will be forthcoming and watching its infrastructure decay cannot hope to meet the transportation needs of its residents in the years to come. |

Investments in a robust transit infrastructure will pay dividends to the regional and urban economies, benefit the environment, and will provide opportunities for urban infill and transit-oriented development. Public transport provides benefits to all regional residents by providing mobility and access to employment and leisure activities, reducing congestion and pollution on the roadways, and enabling the sustainable development of a vibrant region and urban core. Additionally, extended deferred maintenance of exisiting infrastructure assets costs taxpayers more than it saves - it results in safety issues, greater congestion, and higher maintenance costs on vehicles. A prudent approach to infrastructure management is essential for passenger safety as well as the region's economy and environmental quality. |

It is very important to CCWA that any old repairs, or new improvements and roadways be dsigned and constructed with the most diligent attention to the effects on the surrounding natural environment. Much too often in the past, and, sometimes, even the present, there have been shortcuts taken, or total disregard as to how a project affects the natural environment around it. A partnership with groups such as CCWA could go a long way toward creating and instituting positive benefits for all concerned. Until I have the consensus of the Board of Directors, I am not able to offer an endorsement, but, this seems to be a positive step into a very productive future. According to the 2000 Census, there are 40,000 households in the City of Pittsburgh and 80,000 households in Allegheny County which do not have an automobile. A good public transportation system is vital to ensuring that people who do not drive have access to employment, education, medical services, shopping and houses of worship. For those who do own automobiles, buses and trains offer an alternative to traveling by automobile and the aggravation of traffic, finding parking and the high cost of gasoline. An effective and extensive public transportation helps to reduce energy consumption, air pollution and traffic congestion. To maintain mobility for those who do not have automobiles and offer choices for who do have cars, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must establish a reliable stream of dedicated funding for public transportation.

This is important, because people with visual impairments have no other choice to rely on public transportation. If the funding is not there trains, buses, and sub ways will not be improved and service will have to be cut. This would make it harder for people with visual impairments to obtain jobs, since it would be nearly impossible for them to get there. If they do not have jobs the government will have to spend more money on disability wellfare. This does not have to happen. Just give the money to a vidal part of everyday lives transportation. |

I am a resident Counselor with Mon-Yough Community Services. All the clients that I work with use ACCESS and without the service they would be forced to stay at home. They have built social capitol in the community that would end without safe door-to-door transportation. All the progress made in the last decade would be lost without adequate funding to transportation. It's vital that we don't lose funding. |

Mass transportation is vital to many of us who do not drive. I am visually impaired but managed to be employed and live in hte community only because of mass transit. I've sen mass transit cut and cut to the detriment of many I know who want ot work but cannot get to most of the big employers in timely way for work. |

Public transporation is vital to our quality of life in the region. It will improve the environment by cutting down on emissions from cars. It will also provide an affordable way for people who cannot afford cars to get to work, shopping, etc.
I lived in Barcelona for 3 years and never owned a car because of the excellent public transportation available. We in the US can certainly do as well. |
