As you know, there is a critical window of opportunity for the Commonwealth to finally develop and implement a long term, reliable funding solution for a balanced transportation system. As you well know, our transportation agencies are fast again facing a funding crisis and there is a staggering backlog of maintenance and rehabilitation needs as well.

For this Transportation Funding Initiative (TFI), Sustainable Pittsburgh and Transportation for Livable Communities are working closely with business, government, and civic organizations to forward a response statement to the Governors' Transportation Funding and Reform Commission. They are then responsible for identifying a solution to the current fiscal crisis for public transportation and our deteriorating road and bridge network. Our collaborative goals are to:

Link the efforts of your organization to develop a civic sector coalition to advance this TFI statement in support of a stable and reliable source of funding to maintain the Commonwealth's transportation system.
Expand the Commonwealth's transportation system.

The statement of principles includes goals, guidelines, and background for the Initiative. Your input to, and endorsement of, the TFI will enhance and strengthen the ability of us collectively to influence regional investment and planning.

Endorsement conveys your organization's agreement with the Initiative purpose and statement and willingness to be listed as such. Even if you are not able to endorse, please indicate if your organization may be listed as a participant which signals your interest and general alignment. Accordingly, we will provide a link to your organization on the Initiative website listing you as an endorser or participant. We welcome your testimonial as to why this initiative is important to your organization and the region.

Building on the original Transportation Funding Initiative (490 endorsers), Sustainable Pittsburgh has collaborated with a growing group of transportation-concerned organizations to craft "A Call for Sustainable Transportation Funding".

This consensus document is offered for use by all businesses, organizations, individuals, etc. in urging the General Assembly and Governor to determine, during the current legislative session, a long-term reliable funding solution to the Commonwealth's transportation funding crisis.
