SCDN

SCDN is a new program of Sustainable Pittsburgh that aims to enhance the ability of communities in the 10-county region of Southwest Pennsylvania to leverage their knowledge and resources towards a common goal of sustainable development.

The SCDN will facilitate the building of new relationships, promote and support policies to accelerate sustainable solutions, and work to educate leaders and citizens about how to increase their use of sustainable practices.

UPDATED 6.2.09: SP and partners launch 14 Essentials of a Sustainable Community Resource Sheets and Wiki
Released at the 9th annual Smart Growth Conference on May 21, 2009, these resource sheets address the 14 essentials of a sustainable community. Each “essential” has its own customized resource sheet, complete with explanation of the topic and case studies – a helpful tool for community leaders to use as they work to improve their neighborhoods.

The SCDN will connect, advocate, and act in order to achieve this objective.

Connect:	bring experienced sustainable development practitioners together with other leaders looking to increase their understanding and capacity for sustainable development practices; create a database of case studies that highlights existing best practices; continue hosting Sustainable Development Academy seminars
Advocate:	promote and support policies to accelerate sustainable solutions by joining hands across the region
Act:	more than simply a sounding board for ideas, the SCDN will walk the sustainable walk by initiating and completing concrete projects

Purpose

To enhance communities' agility to adapt and innovate with principles of sustainable development as the common interest and strategy.

Develop an agenda that promotes sustainable development
